Virtual University of Pakistan commemorated its 8th Convocation at Faletti’s Hotel, Lahore. A total of 2167 students were conferred degrees for the successful completion of various graduate degree programs, 16 gold medals and 50 merit certificates were also awarded to outstanding graduates. The President of Pakistan and Chancellor Virtual University of Pakistan His Excellency Mamnoon Hussain graced the occasion as the chief guest. Audience included parents, members of faculty and eminent personalities.


The convocation was declared open by the Chancellor Virtual University of Pakistan, President Mamnoon Hussain. Addressing the audience, Dr. Naveed A Malik, Rector welcomed the guests and thanked President of Pakistan for gracing the auspicious event with his presence. In his welcome address, Dr. Naveed A Malik highlighted the achievements of Virtual University, its leading role in delivering education through communication technology and contributing in the provision of quality education to the remotest areas of the country.


President Mamnoon Hussain said that Virtual University is playing an important role in promotion of education in the country and providing standard education to the students at low fee. The President congratulated the degree holders and said the students owed to the support of their parents and teachers for the success in their lives.


The President, along with Dr. Naveed A Malik distributed medals and awards to the high achievers to celebrate dedication in their respective disciplines.

The Management Committee for Scholarships has finalized the candidates for Merit Scholarship (Continuing Students) for Spring, 2017. While considering the award of Merit Scholarship following criteria has been observed in addition to the Student Scholarship Regulations, 2015.

Students are informed that full semester voucher for Spring, 2017 have been issued. Students may convert full semester voucher into installments through their LMS login, procedure is as under:

o    Log on to your VULMS.

o    Go to “Account book”.

o    Click on the installments option against full semester voucher and make installments as admissible.

Notifications and Events / MoU Signed With Taleem Foundation

An MOU between Virtual University of Pakistan and Taleem Foundation (A renowned NGO actively involved in promoting education) was signed to mark the beginning of a collaboration for betterment, promotion and furtherance of ICT-based educational setup of the country. The MOU was signed by Prof. Dr. Naveed A. Malik, Rector VU, and Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qadir, Chairman, Taleem Foundation.

In light of the MOU, both the institutions will mutually support each other to achieve their shared goals and objectives to promote innovative use of technology in education sector, by way of transforming K-12 course contents into high quality videos / visual contents both in Urdu and English languages. Furthermore, necessary skill-mix required for deploying latest educational technologies will be developed;
both parties would also join hands in promoting collaboration with national and international institutions of high repute for integrating educational technologies and research.

Notifications and Events / Biosafety Workshop Held At VU

Department of Molecular Biology, Virtual University of Pakistan organized a one day workshop at M.A. Jinnah Campus, Lahore. Workshop held under the title “Biosafety & Biosecurity: Principles and Practices” in collaboration with the Pakistan Biological Safety Association. Workshop was aimed to provide a forum to share recent developments, raise awareness about biosafety among researchers, academicians and laboratory personnel, emerging trends and standards in the area of biosafety and biosecurity.

Dr. Adnan Zafar Khan, Additional Secretary Health & Head Punjab Aids Control Program was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Naveed A Malik, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan welcomed all the guests and participants of the workshop. He considered the strong participation of both young and experienced researchers as an indication of the event’s success. Key topics discussed at the workshop included: sustainable biosafety education, training and networks,  emergence of biosecurity, biosafety and bioethics in academic medicine and public health, biological risk assessment/mitigation and communication, standardization and best practices for biosafety, biological waste management; and code of conduct for life scientists.

The keynote speakers at the workshop included Dr. Ali Ahmed from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Furqan Ahmed from Pakistan Biological Safety Assosiation, Amber Javed and Samreen Sarwar.

The event concluded with presentation of souvenirs to the distinguished guests and certificates to the participants and organizers.

Notifications and Events / National Conference Held At VU

One-day national conference titled "Latest trends in detection and degradation of aflatoxins and its ingredients in the feed" was held at Virtual University of Pakistan, M.A Jinnah Campus Lahore on April 18, 2017.

The conference was organized by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Technology, Virtual University of Pakistan with the collaboration of Higher Education Commission. The objective of this conference was to explore the vistas and prospects of awareness among the students, producers, processors and consumers about the management of deadly aflatoxins, one of the most toxic groups of mycotoxins that are produced by Aspergillus species. They are found in contaminated feed and have been recognized in the milk of dairy cows feeding on aflatoxin B1 contaminated feeds.

Dr. Naveed A Malik, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan inaugurated the conference formally. Dr. Muhamad Tariq, the organizer of this event extended his vote of thanks to the chief guest Dr. Muhammad Nawaz, Advisor, VU and other guests, participants and emphasized on the need for collaborations and advent of new techniques to detect aflatoxins and their degradation. He added that young scientists should come forward and explore the unchartered waters of this new field. Other guest speakers included Dr. Muhammad Athar, Production Manager, Hi-Tec Feed Mills, Dr. Rafique Asi from National Institute of Agriculture Research, Dr. Makhdoom Abdul Jabbar, Dr. Mohsin Javed, Dr. Sana Zahoor and Dr. Fahad Rafique.

All the participants received participation certificates and shields were awarded to the guests/resource persons.
